Pottery Studio & Classes near Astoria, Queens

AlterWork Studios

Founded in 2017 by artist Tina Stipanovic, AlterWork Studios invites aspiring potters into their open-access art center and creative community in Astoria, Queens. With small class sizes and personalized instruction tailored to all skill levels, AlterWork facilitates artistic experimentation and growth through diverse course offerings in ceramics and beyond.

Intro Wheel Throwing Courses
Beginners first learn foundations during focused 6-8 week intro sessions on one of AlterWork's six pottery wheels.

Encouraging instructors like Tina teach fundamentals from centering clay to pulling basic vessels while checking student progress individually.
The comfortable, spacious layout allows teachers to easily demonstrate techniques up close or lend advice as students work.
Continuing Education
Beyond intro courses, aspiring potters strengthen emerging skills through AlterWork's handbuilding focused workshops or multi-level wheel throwing sessions.

Each class includes 18 bonus open studio hours to practice independently alongside the supportive resident artist community.
Rotate through course topics each semester to continually evolve abilities, as evidenced by one student's progression from total novice to confident potter over repeated classes.
Whether a total beginner tentatively throwing their first pot or an established ceramicist aiming to diversify their skills, AlterWork Studios provides the welcoming atmosphere for creatives to feel comfortable growing at their own pace.
